Guided tours of the Pantheon in Rome: four formats, one room

Forty-nine tours, every one of them with admission included. What separates them is group size, price per head, and how much of Rome comes attached.

Every tour on this page walks you inside the Pantheon. That sounds like the minimum a Pantheon tour should do and it is not: across the wider market, out of roughly eleven hundred sellable experiences that attach themselves to this monument, seventy-eight actually go in. The rest stop in the square, pass by, or never mention the building at all.

So the first thing to say about these forty-nine is what they have in common. All of them include the €7 state admission. None of them is a bus that slows down outside. That is the rule this section is built on and it is the only rule we will not bend for a good product.

What differs is the shape. A guide to yourself for three hours and a guide shared with eleven people for forty minutes are not versions of the same purchase, and the price gap between them — €12 to €860 across this branch — is not a quality ladder. It is four different products that happen to end up in the same round room.

One number frames everything below. Sixteen short visits of the monument alone hold 3,424 reviews; thirty-two longer walks that include it as one stop hold 1,983. Twice the products, well under twice the demand, and a lower average score. The market has already decided that the Pantheon rewards depth over breadth, and it decided it before we wrote this page.
