Private Rome Food Walk with Six Tastings and the Pantheon
Three to four hours, a guide who is yours alone, and six things to eat and drink along the way. The route works through the centre: the Pantheon, Campo de' Fiori, Piazza Navona, Largo Argentina and the Trevi Fountain, with the back streets between them doing as much work as the famous stops. The six tastings are the structure rather than the interruption. Pizza al taglio, sold by weight and cut with scissors. Supplì, the fried rice ball that Romans eat standing up. Italian charcuterie and cheese. Wine from Lazio, which is the region Rome sits in and which almost nobody orders by name. Artisanal gelato. And coffee, taken the way it is taken here, at the counter and in about ninety seconds. Being private changes the pace more than it changes the route. You stop when something is interesting, skip what is not, and ask the guide the questions that occur to you rather than the ones on the script. The meeting point is by the Elephant Obelisk in Piazza della Minerva, where the guide waits with your name.
