The Ghost Walk, Privately: Your Group and Nobody Else
The same haunted route through the old centre, with one difference that matters more than it sounds: the group is yours alone. That changes the evening in two directions. With children or teenagers who scare easily, the guide can adjust what gets told and how far it goes. With a group that wants the full version, nothing has to be softened for a stranger's eight-year-old. Questions get answered properly instead of held for the end, and the walking pace is whatever your slowest person walks at. Everyone gets the interactive Ghost Hunter Kit and is taught how to use it, and video recreations run at the stops. The route covers Campo de' Fiori, where the executions were held; Piazza Farnese and the parties the city's elite threw there; the madonnelle, the corner Madonnas installed partly to deter theft; Ponte Sisto; a fountain with a warning on it; a 17th-century church decorated with human bone; an apartment block that was one of the worst prisons in the country; a Spanish church with a scandal; a former beauty shop that sold something other than beauty; the childhood home of the city's most notorious executioner; and the bridge where the executed were displayed, now lined with angels, where the Cenci story ends. Finish it and you get a Certificate of Survival.

Campo de' Fiori, Roma
Our guide will be waiting at Campo de' Fiori, beneath the statue of Giordano Bruno, holding a yellow Carpe Diem Tours flag or sign. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the start time. Latecomers are not eligible for a refund.
Campo De' Fiori
We start in Campo de' Fiori, one of the best known squares in Rome. It is bars and restaurants now and it was a place of execution, which makes it the right opening.
Piazza Farnese
This square saw a great many extravagant parties thrown by the people who ran the city. The money came with scandal attached, and with things kept quiet.
See several madonelles or “little madonnas” along our route…
The madonelle, the little Madonnas set into corners along the route, and the job they used to do in stopping crime.
Ponte Sisto
Ponte Sisto, with a long history behind it: accidents, power struggles, theft, and deaths that were never explained.
Fontana del Mascherone
Rome's public fountains are drinkable and Romans use them all day. This one carries a warning, which is the exception worth knowing about.
Chiesa di Santa Maria dell'Orazione e Morte
A 17th-century church decorated with human remains, put there to remind anyone entering how near the alternative is.
There’s a reason that this apartment block is haunted and…
This apartment block has its reputation for a reason: it stands on the site of one of the worst prisons in Italian history.
Chiesa di Santa Maria in Monserrato degli Spagnoli
A Spanish church with a story attached that belongs in a soap opera.
Via Giulia
A former beauty shop, and the case of the cosmetics that killed the women who used them.
On the surface it’s just a normal house
An ordinary-looking house that was the childhood home of the most notorious executioner Rome ever had.
Castel Sant'Angelo
The bridge where the bodies of the executed were displayed as a warning is lined with angels now. This is where the Cenci story ends.
Lungotevere Castello, 50, Roma
We finish by Castel Sant'Angelo, and the rest of the evening is yours.
