Rome Food Tour: Trastevere Hidden Gems with Dinner & Wine

An evening walk through Trastevere with four eating stops, the third of which is a full dinner at a table rather than another tasting on your feet. That structure is the difference. Most food tours in Rome are a run of standing snacks; this one builds to a three-course meal in a family-run restaurant, with an antipasto, two classic Roman pastas, a meat course and local wine alongside, finishing with limoncello. Before that: a family deli that has been trading for over a century, where the tasting covers prosciutto, salame and cheese and the guide explains the actual differences, parmigiano against pecorino, prosciutto against salame, which most visitors order for a week without ever learning. Then baccalà, salt cod, fried, which is a Trastevere fixture with a history behind it worth hearing. Afterwards, organic gelato, and the guide shows you how to tell good gelato from the tourist kind by looking at it, which is a skill worth more than the scoop. Small group. Come hungry: the quantities are not decorative. Meet in Piazza Farnese, by the fountain on the right as you face the palace, ten minutes early.

  1. Piazza Farnese, Roma

Arrive ten minutes early. Your guide meets you in Piazza Farnese, by the fountain on the right as you face the Palazzo Farnese. A representative waits there holding a sign reading The Tour Guy.

  2. Trastevere

A family-run deli, trading for over a century and the place local people come for a charcuterie board. The tasting covers prosciutto, salame, cheeses and local wine. The guide explains the differences that matter: parmigiano against pecorino, prosciutto against salame. With the right glass alongside, most people end up coming back to buy some to take home.

  3. Trastevere

The street food stop introduces baccaà, salt cod, and why it became a Trastevere fixture rather than a coastal one. There is a history behind that, and another glass of local wine with it.

  4. Trastevere

A table in a small family-run restaurant for three courses: an antipasto, two classic Roman pasta dishes and a traditional meat course, with local wines chosen to go with them. It ends with a limoncello, which in Italy is not optional.

  5. Trastevere

Organic gelato to finish. The guide shows you how to identify good gelato by sight, which is a practical skill, and you taste several flavours while learning it.

  6. Viale di Trastevere, Roma
