Twilight Aperitivo Walk with an Archaeologist and 15 Tastings

More than fifteen food and wine tastings across an evening, guided by a Roman archaeologist, which is an unusual combination and the reason to book this one. The format is a walking aperitivo rather than a food tour with a lecture attached. It starts in the streets around Campo de' Fiori with a Roman aperitivo, then moves through street food: pizza al taglio from a bakery that opened in 1880, and a supplì from one of the last family-run friggitorie in the city, where the same family has been frying since 1860. That one comes with a beer and something unannounced. After that a traditional grocer's, where the family sells cheese and cured meat from their own farm outside Rome, with wine to go with it. Between the stops the guide reads the streets archaeologically, which in this quarter means pointing at a wall and telling you what is inside it. It finishes near Piazza Navona with something sweet, unspecified on purpose. The meeting point is in front of Antico Bar Mariani, Via dei Pettinari 44.
