On Sundays You Shop at a Different Market Entirely
Check the day before you set out. Monday to Saturday this class meets at Campo de' Fiori, in front of the flower stall, and you shop there. On Sunday, when that market is closed, it meets at the farmers' market on Via San Teodoro 74, below the Palatine, and the transfer from there to the cooking school is included. The two are not the same experience. Campo de' Fiori is a city market in a famous square. San Teodoro is a producers' market, where the person behind the trestle grew what is on it, and the shopping conversation goes differently. What you cook is a full Roman lunch rather than a pasta lesson with extras: a primo, a secondo, a contorno and a dessert, all made from scratch with what you bought that morning. Pasta is made by hand. It starts with a glass of prosecco and Roman antipasti, and finishes at the table with Italian wine. The recipes are emailed afterwards. The kitchen is a 17th-century room in the centre, a short walk from either meeting point. Groups are small, and the chef works with you rather than in front of you. The class ends at Corso del Rinascimento 65.
