From the Capuchin Crypt to the Pantheon, Ending Inside the Rotunda

This walk runs from the most unsettling room in Rome to the calmest, and the order is deliberate. It starts at the Capuchin Crypt, where the bones of an estimated four thousand people, most of them friars of the order, have been arranged into patterns by the brothers who buried them. Nobody leaves that room in the mood they entered it. From there the route goes through the streets to the Trevi Fountain and its legends, then into Sant'Ignazio, a church built around two pieces of painted trickery, and finally to the Pantheon. The Pantheon is where the tour ends, and it ends inside. Agrippa raised the first temple on this site in the years around 25 BC; the building standing now was put up later, under Hadrian, and it has been in turn a temple to the pagan gods, a Christian church and a royal mausoleum.
