Villa Borghese Sunset Photoshoot, with a Video Reel
The stills are the expected part. The video reel is what separates this session from the other photoshoots on the same list: a short cinematic edit, cut for Instagram or TikTok, delivered alongside the photographs. If you have ever come home with fifty good pictures and nothing that moves, that is the gap this fills. The route runs through Villa Borghese in the last hour of light. It starts at Piazzale Napoleone I, one of the highest points in the park, and takes in the Temple of Asclepius, an 18th-century neoclassical folly built on the artificial lake and dedicated to the Greek god of healing, with rowing boats in the water and cypresses behind it. Then the Fountain of the Sea Horses, designed by Cristoforo Unterperger and carved by Vincenzo Pacetti between 1790 and 1791, with four hippocampi holding up the basin. Then Fonte Gaia, which almost nobody photographs. The session closes on the Pincio terrace, above Piazza del Popolo, with the dome of St Peter's in the distance. The photographer directs, so no experience of posing is required, and there is time for an outfit change if you want one. The meeting point is Piazzale Napoleone I, five minutes on foot from Flaminio on metro line A.

piazzale Napoleone I, Roma
Piazzale Napoleone I, in front of the panoramic Pincian terrace in Villa Borghese. Five minutes on foot from Flaminio on metro line A. The spot looks out over the city and makes a good starting point for a sunset shoot. Look for your photographer with a camera.
Terrazza del Pincio
The Pincio terrace is the best known viewpoint in Rome, looking over Piazza del Popolo, the dome of St Peter's and the roofs between them. It sits at the edge of Villa Borghese and works best in the last hour of light, with the balustrades, the statues and the trees giving the frame some depth. A short stop for portraits, not the end of the session.
Temple of Asclepius
The Temple of Asclepius stands on the artificial lake in Villa Borghese, an 18th-century neoclassical building dedicated to the Greek god of healing. Cypresses behind it, rowing boats on the water and reflections underneath. The stop is brief and the light at sunset does most of the work.
Villa Borghese Gardens
Villa Borghese is the best loved park in Rome. The session starts at Piazzale Napoleone I, one of the highest points in it, with the view over Piazza del Popolo and the skyline. From there the route passes fountains, statues, stone railings and tree-lined paths, each chosen because it frames a portrait rather than because it is famous.
Fontana dei Cavalli Marini
The Fountain of the Sea Horses, designed by the painter Cristoforo Unterperger and carved by Vincenzo Pacetti between 1790 and 1791. Four hippocampi hold up a circular basin. It replaced an earlier fountain, the Fontana del Mascherone, when the villa was remodelled, and stands at the centre of its own small piazza.
Fonte Gaia Di Villa Borghese
Fonte Gaia, a smaller fountain in the park that almost nobody stops at, surrounded by greenery and close enough to the paths to be convenient. Its name means the joyful fountain, and it works well for candid frames between the set pieces.
