A Photoshoot in Rome Where You Are the Subject
Worth being clear about what this is, because the listings around it are the opposite. This is not a lesson in photography. Nobody teaches you aperture. A professional photographer takes pictures of you, in Rome, and sends them to you afterwards. Packages run from 30 to 90 minutes and cover one to four locations, so the length of the shoot decides how much of the city ends up behind you. The photographer handles the angles and works with candid moments as well as posed ones. The locations include the Colosseum after dark, when it is lit and the crowd has gone; the Roman Forum in the last of the light; Piazza Venezia; the Campidoglio, with Michelangelo's paving and a copy of the equestrian Marcus Aurelius at the centre; the Pantheon; the Temple of Hadrian; and the Trevi Fountain. Images arrive within 24 to 48 hours, often the same day. Two things worth knowing. There is an optional stop for gelato or a coffee and cornetto, at the photographer's discretion. And instead of walking, the shoot can be done with a Vespa or a vintage Fiat 500, which becomes part of the pictures. Four meeting points are available: Trevi, two near the Colosseum, and one on Via della Conciliazione by the Vatican.

Colosseum
The Colosseum at night, lit from below, with the crowd gone and the arches reading as shape rather than as queue. The photographer works the light and shadow on the stone, which is what makes the difference between a snapshot and a picture worth printing.
Roman Forum
As the light goes, the Roman Forum is lit from the ground and the ruins separate from the dark behind them. The area is quieter at this hour, which shows in the photographs.
Piazza Venezia / Ancient City
Piazza Venezia holds the Altare della Patria and the Palazzo Venezia, both floodlit after dark and both very white against a black sky. The square is calmer at night, which changes what can be framed.
Piazza del Campidoglio
At the centre stands a copy of the equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius. The square closes with the Palazzo Senatorio and its double staircase, the seat of the city council, which still holds the Patarina bell the Romans took from Viterbo in war and rang to announce important events.
Pantheon
The Pantheon at night, with the portico lit and the square in front of it emptying. The photographer knows where to stand for the columns and where to stand for the square, which are not the same place.
Tempio di Adriano
Hadrian (78-138 AD) ruled from 117 to 138 and is counted the third of the five good emperors, after Nerva and Trajan and before Antoninus Pius and Marcus Aurelius. Eleven columns of his temple still stand in Piazza di Pietra.
Trevi Fountain
The Trevi Fountain after dark, with fewer people in the frame and the water lit from within the basin.
