Rome at Night on Foot, Because the Streets Are Pedestrian

There is a straightforward reason this is a walking tour and not a drive: most of the best streets in the centre are closed to cars. A vehicle would have to go round, which means the parts worth seeing are the parts you can only reach on foot. The second reason is the heat. In summer the centre is punishing until well into the evening, and after sunset the same route becomes comfortable, with the monuments lit and the crowds thinned out. The walk covers Campo de' Fiori, Piazza Navona, Piazza Colonna, the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon and Piazza Farnese, with a local guide and a group that tends to talk to itself by the end. It is priced modestly, which for an evening that covers this much of the centre is the point.
