Rome at Night on Foot: 4.44 Kilometres, Colosseum to Spagna
This listing states the distance, which almost none of them do: 4.44 kilometres, about three miles, on foot, at night. Read that before booking. It is a walk, the ground is cobbled, and there is no vehicle at any point. The route starts at the Colosseum, discussed from outside. It was paid for with the spoils of the Jewish War and the sack of Jerusalem in AD 70, and prisoners taken in that war worked on its construction, which is a part of the building's history usually left off the plaque. From there the walk follows the Via dei Fori Imperiali, the road Mussolini drove through the ancient centre, to Piazza Venezia and the Vittoriano, with time for photographs and an explanation of why the square is named after Venice. Past the Pontifical Gregorian University, the first university the Jesuits founded, to the Trevi Fountain lit at night. Then the Pantheon, the best preserved Roman building in the city and still a working church. The walk ends at the Spanish Steps. Wi-Fi is provided if you need it.
